Review: Harold Hound Deluxe Playmat and Gym

We received a Harold Hound Deluxe Playmat and Gym when Anderson was very young. Made by Mamas & Papas, it provides a soft and comfortable place for you to put your newborn, as well as provides some stimulating textures and activities that many babies love.

Harold has crinkly ears, a honking nose, and along the arches that go above your baby are several detachable toys. The sides of Harold are high and well padded — it's really more of a play-boat than a play-mat. We found that the sides were a great place to practice tummy time, as Anderson didn't like being directly on the floor.

If you have pets, especially cats, beware. Harold makes a great pet bed, and the fabric is a fur magnet. And since its only washable with a soft wet cloth, getting that hair off can be problematic. We ended up keeping Harold in the pet free zone of our house, which limited its use. Harold is also on the large side. It's probably no bigger than other play-mats, but Harold can't be folded up. So be sure that you have some extra room to keep him out.
